On the morning of March 30, Professors Chen Duanduan and Xu Qi, vice-deans of CFLC, visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) at the Chinese Culture University (CCU) in Taiwan. SFL dean Prof. Li Ximei extended a warm welcome to the CFLC visitors and briefed them on SFL’s history, current enrollment and academic programs. During the meeting, the two CFLC vice-deans gave an introduction to the CFLC-organized annual Cross-Strait English and Japanese Interpreting Contests and revealed plans to launch a similar contest for the Russian language. They also extended an invitation to CCU to take part in the contests. On the afternoon of the same day, CFLC vice-dean Prof. Xu Qi also visited the College of Foreign Languages at Tamkang University (TKU) and met with Prof. Su Shuyan, chair of TKU’s Department of Russian Language. During the meeting, they exchanged views on the teaching of the Russian language in mainland China and Taiwan, and its reforms and main challenges. On the same afternoon, CFLC vice-dean Prof. Chen Duanduan, Prof. Chen Jing and Dr. Su Wei visited the College of Foreign Languages (CFL) at Fu Jen Catholic University (FJU). They met with Lai Zhennan, dean of CFL, and Prof. Yang Chengshu, president of CFL’s Cross-Cultural Research Institute. During the meeting, CFLC vice-dean Prof. Chen conveyed her appreciation to CFL dean Prof. Lai for the support that the Taiwan Society of Japanese Language, of which Lai was the president, had lent to the CFLC-organized first Cross-Strait Japanese Interpreting Contest. They also discussed the plans to stage the second Cross-Strait Japanese Interpreting Contest in Taiwan, and exchanged views on the development of students’ practical skills, collaborative doctoral programs, and student exchange programs. On March 31, CFLC dice-dean Prof. Chen Duanduan and her associates visited the National Chengchi University (NCCU) and toured its College of Foreign Languages and Russian Center. She talked with NCCU officers about efforts to promote the Cross-Strait English, Japanese and Russian Interpreting Contests. On April 2, during an intermission of the finals of the sixth Cross-Strait Interpreting Contest, CFLC vice-dean Prof. Chen and her associates met with Prof. Chen Mingfei, vice president of the National Changhua University of Education. They discussed the plans for the interpreting contests in the future and expressed determination to sustain the contests to promote academic exchange across the Taiwan Strait.
