CFLC hosted a psychological salon on November 29. At the salon, Huang Fusheng, a counselor with XMU’s Center of Psychological Counseling and Education, presented a lecture entitled “How to Balance Study, Work and Life” and answered questions from students. Twenty students of the Class of 2019 attended the salon and deepened their understanding of the proper ways to balance study, work and life. The salon opened amidst gently flowing melody, with the counselor and students sitting in a circle. The students first talked about the stress from the school workload, insufficient leisure time, their weak self-discipline, and their struggle to find time for campus events. Counselor listened sympathetically and organized a game to help the students find inspirations for their problems. In the interactive game, two students worked as a team to scrawl drawings of landscapes and cartoon figures in turn to tell a story. In the process, they unleashed their creative energy and gave free rein to their imagination, enjoying a relaxing moment. Following the game, the students commented on each other’s creations and shared their thoughts on the teamwork in the creative process. Counselor Huang wrapped up the salon by encouraging the students to prioritize their tasks in light of their busy schedule. He stressed that spiritual contentment is the ultimate happiness and encouraged the students to set clear goals in life and strike a proper balance between work and play. The salon was organized at the request of CFLC in an attempt to help students better cope with the pressures of student life and recognize the importance of self management. The event inspired students to adopt a positive attitude toward study, work and life and contributed to their psychological wellbeing.
